Expert advice benefits Seton Specialty Hospital

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., Aug. 8, 2007 – When starting the development of Seton Specialty Hospital, St. Vincent Health followed the recommendation of its design/build team to hire Hammes Company for advice and expertise in Project Management. The team was led by contractor Brasfield & Gorrie; BSA LifeStructures designed the building.

The free-standing Long Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH) completed in May of 2007, sits on a 10-acre site adjacent to the St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital Campus. The new facility has been designed to accommodate 74 private beds within approximately 64,500 SF. It is currently 100% occupied with a waiting list.

“Hammes Company helped us a great deal with their expertise in the design phase of the hospital,” says Peter Alexander, CEO, Seton Specialty Hospital. “Their ideas helped cut costs and made the hospital more efficient and user-friendly for the staff and patients/families.”

St. Vincent, which is part of the Ascension Health System, engaged Hammes Company to provide a second opinion for its proposed development and oversight process, along with an evaluation of the organization’s current operations.

"As part of our initial review, the Hammes team proposed a revised design that increased the LTACH to two stories and utilized a central station in each wing, making the floor plan much more efficient for the nursing staff,” says Bob Droese, Senior Project Executive at Hammes Company. “During the Project Management stage we negotiated a more owner-favorable contract. The project came in significantly under budget and weeks ahead of schedule.”

As Project Manager, Hammes Company managed and reduced the risks of the project, acting as an unbiased agent reviewing all design and construction assumptions and providing the leadership needed to keep the project on track.
