Hammes Company expands international initiative
BROOKFIELD, Wis., May 5, 2010 – Hammes Company has announced that it has increased its overseas operations under the new name Hammes Company International.
Travis Messina, a veteran of the company, has been selected to lead the firm’s international business unit. Mr. Messina was named Senior Director - Hammes Company International.
“When people think of Hammes Company, they probably think of the firm that has topped
Modern Healthcare’s ranking of the largest U.S. healthcare real estate developers for the past 11 consecutive years,” Mr. Messina says. “But they might not realize that we have also been active in international healthcare development for nearly as long.”
Health Inventures, a Hammes Company affiliate that provides development and management services for ambulatory surgery centers and specialty hospitals, first worked overseas in 2001. Health Inventures has provided services to partners in the Middle East, Portugal, Malaysia, Costa Rica, the United Kingdom and Ireland. One of its most significant partnerships has been with Tribal Group in the United Kingdom to commission health facilities to provide services to National Health Service patients.
“Together with Health Inventures, we were able to successfully develop a healthcare delivery network with multiple facilities and a common operating platform,” says Peter Martin, Chief Executive of Tribal Group plc. “This key national initiative provided significant new patient access to elective health services and helped promote improved standards for ambulatory and specialty inpatient care delivery in the United Kingdom.”
Hammes Company is currently working with Bahrain-based Safe Hands Health System Holding Company (SHHS) to develop a $1.5 billion program that includes over 30 medical facilities across the Middle East. SHHS selected Hammes Company to assist with project implementation and design of the facilities. Hammes Company International is actively pursuing additional opportunities in the Caribbean and Dubai, as well as other areas of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and India.
“Healthcare services are local, but healthcare is a global business,” explains Hammes Company Founder and Managing Partner Jon Hammes. “Internationally, our focus is on the development of comprehensive healthcare delivery models and operational solutions – bringing proven U.S. models to markets worldwide.”
“We work with the public sector as well as entrepreneurial investors to adapt successful U.S. healthcare delivery methods for the global marketplace, while respecting the cultural and ethnic diversity of each unique country,” Mr. Hammes adds.
