Hammes Company healthcare facility planning expert to present at ASHE

BROOKFIELD, Wis., March 12, 2014 – Hammes Company is proud to announce that one of their top healthcare facility planning and development leaders will be speaking on a panel, alongside two hospital administrators and a healthcare architect, presenting at the American Society for Healthcare Engineering’s International Summit & Exhibition on Health Facility Planning, Design & Construction next month.

The summit provides education for healthcare leaders on relevant topics within the industry, including themes dedicated to project delivery team collaboration, sustainability, technology and design innovations. This year’s summit will be held at the Hilton Orlando in Orlando, Florida from March 16-19.

Dave Connolly, senior vice president with Hammes Company, served as the lead project manager on Elmhurst Memorial Hospital’s replacement campus in Elmhurst, Illinois, which opened in 2011. Based on the Planetree model of patient care, the new campus included planning innovations which have increased patient and staff satisfaction, safety metrics and operations.

“We were honored to lead and direct the processes that produced a facility that serves patients, visitors and staff in such a comforting, effective, efficient way. Our session will outline the innovations which removed the obstacles for Elmhurst Memorial Hospital to provide excellent care,” says Hammes Company Senior Vice President Dave Connolly.

With the unique perspective from the project team, the panel will present “Removing the Barriers to Exceptional Patient-Centered Care,” from 8:40-9:40 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19. The case study will detail the project’s achieved goals and the team’s efforts to integrate Lean processes to bolster efficiency and performance within the 866,000-square foot, 259-bed acute care hospital.

“All of our clinical and facility operational processes changed with the opening of the new campus and that would not be possible without the new facility,” says Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Chief Operations Officer and Chief Nursing Officer Pamela Dunley.

Connolly will be joined on the panel by Pamela Dunley, Chief Operations Officer and Chief Nursing Officer, Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare; Laura Eslick, MBA, FACHE, PMP, Associate Vice President, Hospital Operations, Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare; and Robert F. Sharrow, AIA, ACHA, Vice President, Albert Kahn Family of Companies.

“Elmhurst’s Memorial Healthcare’s vision for the new facility was focused on Planetree’s patient-centered care model achieving improved performance, collaboration, safety, satisfaction and clinical outcomes,” explains Albert Kahn Family of Companies Vice President Robert F. Sharrow.

The PDC Summit is an annual event coordinated by industry organizations within healthcare planning, design and construction, including American Hospital Association and The American Institute of Architects, amongst others.  Every year, the event is attended by hospital executives, architects, construction managers, healthcare facility managers, interior designers, safety managers and various consultants. This year’s summit will offer the potential to gain 23 contact hours of continuing education credit.
